Katy & Glenn at Bodysgallen Hall Bodysgallen-Hall-WeddingBodysgallen-Hall-Wedding

Bodysgallen Hall in Llandudno is a lovely venue - possibly the best in North Wales for smaller weddings?

Katy & Glenn's wedding there at the end of October was an absolute joy to cover - not just because they're such a modest, unassuming couple, but because I've known Glenn literally since he was born, and having already covered his sister's wedding earlier in the year, already knew many of the guests too.

You can see some more images here : Katy & Glenn's Bodysgallen Hall Wedding

Game, Set & a very good match. Wild-Pheasant-WeddingLydiia & Simon's Wild Pheasant WeddingAdvantage Lydia !

Not something you see every day, is it?

But for a couple who met playing mixed doubles, and whose lives revolve around tennis, it was inevitable and completely fitting that the sport should feature heavily in their big day. Their theme included the Wimbledon colours of purple and green, and the front lawn at the Wild Pheasant, Llangollen became Centre Court.

Great fun, and part of a very memorable day for a likeable couple that I've loved working with.

(There's some more of their images in Weddings, Galleries if you want a look).

Grosvenor Pulford's Asian Garden Grosvenor-Pulford-Wedding-PhotographyGrosvenor-Pulford-Wedding-Photography

From Sally & Gordon's wedding at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel.

It's been a while since I've shot in the Asian Garden. I quite like the original traditional garden too, with its weeping willows, but on a sunny day the Asian Garden with its vibrant colours comes into its own. The acers are amazing!

Nicole & Kane's Eccleston Village Hall Wedding Nicole&Kane1Nicole&Kane1Plemstall Church & Eccleston Village Hall Nicole&Kane2Nicole&Kane2Plemstall Church & Eccleston Village Hall

A few images from a truly awesome wedding!

Nicole & Kane were married at the lovely little sandstone church of St. Peter's  in Plemstall, near Mickle Trafford, Chester, with receptions at Eccleston Village Hall.

Nicole's an avid book reader, and chose a literary theme for the day, with invites and order of service in the style of the iconic Penguin book covers, and cocktails that were puns on famous titles (Tequila Mockingbird, The Adventures of Huckleberry Gin ... ).  Add an E-type Jag for the trip from church to Eccleston (with the bridesmaids in a VW Campervan) and some other great touches, and it all added up to a great theme.

However well you plan the day though, for me the success of a wedding is down to the atmosphere & feel of the day, and that's something you can't pre-plan. But they had that too. In abundance. An absolutely lovely couple, and a fantastic group of friends and family (from Chester, Liverpool, Glasgow and the US) who made the day something truly special!

Where it began, I can't begin to knowin' ... Sarah-&-Bridesmaids-at-Rossett-HallSarah & her bridesmaidsGood times never seemed so good

A bit of fun with the bridesmaids at Sarah & Steve's wedding at Rossett Hall recently.

Just as we were gathering the girls together, and moving round to the other side of the hotel (by Oscar's) to do the photos, the wedding singer was singing 'Sweet Caroline'. So we kind of took it with us, and got the bridesmaids to sing it for us.

It worked quite well. So I've done it at a couple of other weddings since, and it's become a bit of a thing, for now at least!

There's some more images from Sarah & Steve's wedding here : Sarah & Steve's Rossett Hall Wedding

p.s. We also do formal, posed group photos. Sometimes.

Hafod Farm, Betws y Coed Hafod-Farm-WeddingHafod Farm WeddingPriodas yn Fferm yr Hafod, Eryri

I love Snowdonia, and have spent many hours there walking in the mountains. So Hafod Farm, between Betws-y-Coed and Llanrwst, a chilled-out country venue with its backdrop of the Gwydir Forest, has been on my list of ‘venues I’d like to shoot at’ for some time.

The chance came with Kelsey & Glynn’s wedding, and it didn’t disappoint – a perfectly relaxed day in glorious weather, and with a festival feel with many of the guests camping and caravanning in the grounds for the whole weekend.

Their images are now in the galleries, if you'd like a little look.

Albums ... love them! Hannah-Adam-Page1Hannah-Adam-Page1 Hannah-Adam-Page2Hannah-Adam-Page2 Hannah-Adam-Page3Hannah-Adam-Page3

Next to actually shooting a wedding, designing albums is definitely a favourite bit of this job. And I love delivering them to clients too!

It's the culmination of the whole process, and not much compares with seeing their excitement as they see their wedding photos displayed in something that they and their family will treasure for years to come. An album is just so much more tangible than a set of digital files.

Mine are usually from Graphistudio's range. They're hand-made in Italy, and a quality product with a massive range of cover & customisation options so that no two albums need be the same.  My packages include a very wide range of options as standard, and all albums are supplied in custom presentation boxes - that's not always the case, and some photographers only provide them as an add-on at additional cost - worth remembering if you're comparing photographers' prices, to ensure that you're comparing like with like.

At my studio at the Plassey, I've got a range of sample albums, and swatches of the available cover materials. Please feel free to pop up sometime to have a look!

(The images above are an extract from Hannah & Adam's, from their weddiing at Tower Hill Barns last August)

Engagement and Pre-Wedding Shoots Stacey&Neil1Stacey&Neil1Engagement Shoot at the Plassey, Wrexham Stacey&Neil2Stacey&Neil2Engagement Shoot at the Plassey, Wrexham A busy Easter weekend coming up, with a family shoot and 2 engagement shoot, and a few other bits besides.

Engagement shoots are a great way to 'break the ice' before the big day, and the Plassey where I'm based has plenty of scope and a great range of natural backgrounds to use, in the quiet corners that the public don't normally get to.

Here's one I made earlier ... from Stacey & Neil's shoot back in November. There's just another month or so to go before they tie the knot !

My Wrexham Wedding - a new venture My-Wrexham-WeddingMy-Wrexham-WeddingWedding Directory & information resource for Brides and Grooms in Wrexham area

Well, new to me anyway.

The My Wrexham Wedding website was set up in 2012 by Natalie Edwards, and has always been the best site of its kind in the area. But because of work & family commitments, Natalie's no longer able to give it the time it needs ... so I'm going to have a go!

If you're familiar with the site, you'll know that Natalie’s formula for it has worked well, so I’m not planning on changing it too much – it has the definitive listing of wedding fairs in the area, and it’s a great way for brides and grooms to find wedding suppliers, and to read about other people’s experiences. So we’ll keep all that, but I’m aiming to build on it with the new ‘Help and Advice’ pages, which will grow in the coming months. And there’s a few other ideas taking shape too.

The website's had a bit of makeover and you can see the new layout at  Pop over and have a look, and if you're planning a wedding, come and join us on Facebook ?

Ruby & Paul's Llangollen Railway Wedding Llangollen-Railway-Wedding-Ruby & Paul's Llangollen Railway WeddingFirst Class, on the 15.10 to Corwen Llangollen-Rail-Wedding-2Llangollen-Rail-Wedding-2 Just catching up a bit now that we're out of the main wedding season, so a chance to share some of Ruby & Paul's wedding photography, from their awesome & quite different big day at Llangollen Railway. Ruby arrived by carriage from Abbey Farm (where the evening reception would be held) for the ceremony in the Henry Robertson suite. Then a few group photos on Platform 2, before catching the 15.10 train for afternoon tea, and jumping off at Carrog for the 'couple shots' while the train went on to Corwen to turn round.

Ruby & Paul met at Drama School, and were probably the easiest couple I've ever worked with - they had some great ideas, and I think they directed me, more than the other way around! Great fun, lovely couple, First Class day and just the ticket!

Alison & Mark's Wedding at Château Rhianfa Chateau-Rhianfa-AMAlison & Mark's Christmas Wedding at Chateau Rhianfa

Château Rhianfa’s an extraordinary wedding venue – it sits high on the banks of the Menai Straits at Porthaethwy in a commanding position with views over to the mountains of Snowdonia. And for Alison & Mark’s wedding, just after Christmas, we were blessed with gorgeous winter sunshine that showed it off in all its stunning beauty. Add to that the faultless service from the staff on the day, and I think it’s just become my favourite venue!

Alison & Mark called in to the Plassey this morning, to see their wedding photos, and pick up their USB … and to re-live the day over a coffee, and a few cookies!

You can see a few more of them here : Alison & Mark at Château Rhianfa

Winter Weddings Quay-Deganwy-Wedding-PhotographyQuay-Deganwy-Wedding-Photography-HG

For reasons that aren't exactly clear, this winter's been very busy, with October, November and December on a par with the busy summer months.

I like winter weddings. OK, the days are shorter, and it's a bit colder, but the sun is lower in the sky giving the light a different quality, and indoors the warmth of artificial lighting and open fires can add an ambience that you don't get in peak summer.

There's a higher risk of rain of course, but only really at the start and end of winter, and January and February are more likely to be dry and crisp.

This year, the weather's been quite kind and we've been lucky. These images were from Hayley & Greg's wedding at the Quay in Deganwy, a few days before Christmas. The venue sits right on the Conwy Estuary, so it can be a bit breezy, but these were taken in the courtyard in the centre of the hotel - a little haven, perfect for wedding photography.

You'll find more of their images here : Hayley & Greg's Quay Deganwy Wedding

Ruth & Chris' Lion Quays Wedding Rachel & Chris' Lion Quays WeddingDown by the canal in the winter sun

The weather for Ruth & Chris' November wedding at Lion Quays was just perfect, with lovely low winter afternoon sun right through the afternoon.

An unassuming couple, whose elegant wedding had just the right ambience and was a real pleasure to be a part of.

Rebecca & Luke's Engagement Shoot Wrexham Engagement PhotographyAn Autumn shoot at the Plassey, near Wrexham A few images from a fun shoot at the Plassey.

Engagement Shoots are a great way to get to know your wedding photographer and break the ice, and for those of us who are a bit self-conscious in front of a camera to shed any nerves, so that you're relaxed and comfortable on your big day. The Plassey where I'm based (between Johnstown and Bangor-on-Dee, near Wrexham) covers a vast area, and we're blessed with a great variety of quiet, secluded locations away from the public. My premium package includes an Engagement or Pre-wedding Shoot as standard, or it can be added to any of the other packages as an 'extra'.

Rebecca & Luke's was a nice relaxed affair on a quiet Autumn Sunday morning. They're tying the knot next year in Whitchurch (the Shropshire one) and I know it's going to be great wedding!

There's a few more images on my Facebook page, if you like to see them
