I first met Beth when I photographed her sister's wedding in 2015, and was honoured to be chosen to shoot her & Jason's wedding too. And yesterday, I was in Telford for a wedding with a family I'd previously worked with in 2013. It's always good to renew acquaintances, and a compliment to be asked back a second time, but it's also a massive help, when you already know half the guests, in helping things to run smoothly on the day, and for everyone to be so much more relaxed when the camera points their way.

Jennie & Tom's wedding at Llyndir Hall Llyndir-Hall-Wedding-PhotogJennie & Tom at LlyndirA welsh-kiwi wedding Planning a wedding is an expensive time. But however much or little you choose to spend, the one thing you can't buy is the atmosphere and 'feel' of the day. That comes from planning wisely, and choosing reliable suppliers (and a well-organised, friendly photographer!) ... and then, on the day, relaxing and enjoying every minute.

Jennie & Tom's wedding summed that up perfectly. One of the most enjoyable and memorable weddings I've had the pleasure of photographing. The fact that they're a top couple, with big personalities and a great sense of humour helped too !

It's always good to see the finished product, and couples' reactions when they first see it. But as it's often the final stage in the wedding 'journey', it's also sad to say goodbye (for now at least) to valued clients that I've got to know well, and shared a great relationship with over a year or two. None more so than with Scott & Becky who got married at Soughton Hall back in August, and who've been a joy to work with.

Bodysgallen Hall in Llandudno is a lovely venue - possibly the best in North Wales for smaller weddings?

Katy & Glenn's wedding there at the end of October was an absolute joy to cover - not just because they're such a modest, unassuming couple, but because I've known Glenn literally since he was born, and having already covered his sister's wedding earlier in the year, already knew many of the guests too.

Not something you see every day, is it?

But for a couple who met playing mixed doubles, and whose lives revolve around tennis, it was inevitable and completely fitting that the sport should feature heavily in their big day. Their theme included the Wimbledon colours of purple and green, and the front lawn at the Wild Pheasant, Llangollen became Centre Court.

Great fun, and part of a very memorable day for a likeable couple that I've loved working with.

Nicole & Kane's Eccleston Village Hall Wedding Nicole&Kane1Nicole&Kane1Plemstall Church & Eccleston Village Hall Nicole&Kane2Nicole&Kane2Plemstall Church & Eccleston Village Hall

A few images from a truly awesome wedding!

Nicole & Kane were married at the lovely little sandstone church of St. Peter's  in Plemstall, near Mickle Trafford, Chester, with receptions at Eccleston Village Hall.

Nicole's an avid book reader, and chose a literary theme for the day, with invites and order of service in the style of the iconic Penguin book covers, and cocktails that were puns on famous titles (Tequila Mockingbird, The Adventures of Huckleberry Gin ... ).  Add an E-type Jag for the trip from church to Eccleston (with the bridesmaids in a VW Campervan) and some other great touches, and it all added up to a great theme.

However well you plan the day though, for me the success of a wedding is down to the atmosphere & feel of the day, and that's something you can't pre-plan. But they had that too. In abundance. An absolutely lovely couple, and a fantastic group of friends and family (from Chester, Liverpool, Glasgow and the US) who made the day something truly special!

Where it began, I can't begin to knowin' ... Sarah-&-Bridesmaids-at-Rossett-HallSarah & her bridesmaidsGood times never seemed so good

A bit of fun with the bridesmaids at Sarah & Steve's wedding at Rossett Hall recently.

Just as we were gathering the girls together, and moving round to the other side of the hotel (by Oscar's) to do the photos, the wedding singer was singing 'Sweet Caroline'. So we kind of took it with us, and got the bridesmaids to sing it for us.

It worked quite well. So I've done it at a couple of other weddings since, and it's become a bit of a thing, for now at least!

I love Snowdonia, and have spent many hours there walking in the mountains. So Hafod Farm, between Betws-y-Coed and Llanrwst, a chilled-out country venue with its backdrop of the Gwydir Forest, has been on my list of ‘venues I’d like to shoot at’ for some time.

Albums ... love them! Hannah-Adam-Page1Hannah-Adam-Page1 Hannah-Adam-Page2Hannah-Adam-Page2 Hannah-Adam-Page3Hannah-Adam-Page3

Next to actually shooting a wedding, designing albums is definitely a favourite bit of this job. And I love delivering them to clients too!

It's the culmination of the whole process, and not much compares with seeing their excitement as they see their wedding photos displayed in something that they and their family will treasure for years to come. An album is just so much more tangible than a set of digital files.

Mine are usually from Graphistudio's range. They're hand-made in Italy, and a quality product with a massive range of cover & customisation options so that no two albums need be the same.  My packages include a very wide range of options as standard, and all albums are supplied in custom presentation boxes - that's not always the case, and some photographers only provide them as an add-on at additional cost - worth remembering if you're comparing photographers' prices, to ensure that you're comparing like with like.

At my studio at the Plassey, I've got a range of sample albums, and swatches of the available cover materials. Please feel free to pop up sometime to have a look!

My Wrexham Wedding - a new venture My-Wrexham-WeddingMy-Wrexham-WeddingWedding Directory & information resource for Brides and Grooms in Wrexham area

Well, new to me anyway.

The My Wrexham Wedding website was set up in 2012 by Natalie Edwards, and has always been the best site of its kind in the area. But because of work & family commitments, Natalie's no longer able to give it the time it needs ... so I'm going to have a go!

If you're familiar with the site, you'll know that Natalie’s formula for it has worked well, so I’m not planning on changing it too much – it has the definitive listing of wedding fairs in the area, and it’s a great way for brides and grooms to find wedding suppliers, and to read about other people’s experiences. So we’ll keep all that, but I’m aiming to build on it with the new ‘Help and Advice’ pages, which will grow in the coming months. And there’s a few other ideas taking shape too.

The website's had a bit of makeover and you can see the new layout at  Pop over and have a look, and if you're planning a wedding, come and join us on Facebook ?

Ruby arrived by carriage from Abbey Farm (where the evening reception would be held) for the ceremony in the Henry Robertson suite. Then a few group photos on Platform 2, before catching the 15.10 train for afternoon tea, and jumping off at Carrog for the 'couple shots' while the train went on to Corwen to turn round.

Alison & Mark's Wedding at Château Rhianfa Chateau-Rhianfa-AMAlison & Mark's Christmas Wedding at Chateau Rhianfa

Château Rhianfa’s an extraordinary wedding venue – it sits high on the banks of the Menai Straits at Porthaethwy in a commanding position with views over to the mountains of Snowdonia. And for Alison & Mark’s wedding, just after Christmas, we were blessed with gorgeous winter sunshine that showed it off in all its stunning beauty. Add to that the faultless service from the staff on the day, and I think it’s just become my favourite venue!

Winter Weddings Quay-Deganwy-Wedding-PhotographyQuay-Deganwy-Wedding-Photography-HG

For reasons that aren't exactly clear, this winter's been very busy, with October, November and December on a par with the busy summer months.

I like winter weddings. OK, the days are shorter, and it's a bit colder, but the sun is lower in the sky giving the light a different quality, and indoors the warmth of artificial lighting and open fires can add an ambience that you don't get in peak summer.

There's a higher risk of rain of course, but only really at the start and end of winter, and January and February are more likely to be dry and crisp.

This year, the weather's been quite kind and we've been lucky. These images were from Hayley & Greg's wedding at the Quay in Deganwy, a few days before Christmas. The venue sits right on the Conwy Estuary, so it can be a bit breezy, but these were taken in the courtyard in the centre of the hotel - a little haven, perfect for wedding photography.

Rebecca & Luke's Engagement Shoot Wrexham Engagement PhotographyAn Autumn shoot at the Plassey, near Wrexham A few images from a fun shoot at the Plassey.

Engagement Shoots are a great way to get to know your wedding photographer and break the ice, and for those of us who are a bit self-conscious in front of a camera to shed any nerves, so that you're relaxed and comfortable on your big day. The Plassey where I'm based (between Johnstown and Bangor-on-Dee, near Wrexham) covers a vast area, and we're blessed with a great variety of quiet, secluded locations away from the public. My premium package includes an Engagement or Pre-wedding Shoot as standard, or it can be added to any of the other packages as an 'extra'.

Rebecca & Luke's was a nice relaxed affair on a quiet Autumn Sunday morning. They're tying the knot next year in Whitchurch (the Shropshire one) and I know it's going to be great wedding!

Jen & Stu's Palms Hill Wedding Jen & Stu's Palms Hill WeddingIn the walled garden at Palms Hill, near Wem, Shropshire To date, I've photographed weddings at around 90 different venues, with three more new ones to come yet this year. Jen & Stu's was the first I'd done at Palms Hill, near Wem in Shropshire, but I'm certainly hoping it isn't the last. The walled garden is just perfect for wedding photography, plus there's a great choice of other backgrounds, nooks and crannies too. And Meg Wilton-Morgan there is the perfect hostess!

Jen & Stu's wedding was a very clever blend of the traditional and contemporary - a church wedding at St.Ruthen's in Longden near Shrewsbury, followed by a marquee reception at Palms Hill with some lovely touches (they served dessert themselves giving them the opportunity to speak to each and every guest) before the Ceilidh in the evening with HiJinx Ceilidh Band.

Before becoming a professional photographer back in 2007, I lived in Guilsfield near Welshpool for 7 years, and my job at the time had a ‘patch’ that covered Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire, and a bit beyond.

So it’s always a treat to photograph weddings in the area, and in August I was there twice in 4 days – at Broneirion, Llandinam for Emma & Dan, and at Gregynog Hall for Rhian & Ben. Both are stunning venues.

Emma & Dan’s wedding was quite unique for many reasons, and an absolute joy to be part of. You can see their images here : Emma & Dan's Wedding at Broneirion

It was the first time I'd photographed at All Saints' at Penylan near Wrexham - a pretty little sandstone church in a quiet village, and if I had to pick a highlight from their day, it'd be the ceremony itself - a lovely setting, and they didn't stop smiling throughout!

Preparing for a wedding - why venue visits are important I've had a couple of trips out to wedding venues this week - a circuit of North Shropshire on Monday to see Palms Hill and Halston Hall (plus a couple of churches) and a quick trip down to Broneirion and Gregynog Hall in Powys on Wednesday.

I know that some photographers will disagree, but I've always seen venue visits before the day of a wedding as a must. Weddings are fast-paced, and the time between the ceremony and wedding breakfast tends to be at a premium. The venue have food waiting to be served, and no-one wants to be hanging around while the photographer faffs around looking for the best locations! So it's about having a plan in my head, working efficiently and maximising the time available, to get all the formal family shots the bride and groom want, and those great couple shots that'll be the standout images in their album.

The four venues I went to this week were just perfect for wedding photography. and each had a few nooks and crannies that I probably wouldn't have spotted otherwise. The two in Mid Wales have a bit of history behind them too, with connections to David Davies Llandinam an industrialist & politician in the 1800’s who built railways, and Barry Docks, and made quite a bit of cash in the South Wales coalfields. He built Broneirion, and his grand-daughters (who donated the family art collection to the National Museum of Wales, bless them) bought and lived at Gregynog.

I'm photographing the two weddings at those venues in the same week in August. And can't wait!

Gemma & Chris' Inglewood Manor Wedding Flintshire Wedding Photography GC I started 2016 shooting a New Year’s Day wedding at Inglewood Manor, and it was great to back there again recently for Gemma & Chris’ big day (after their ceremony at St. John the Baptist in Penymynydd, Flintshire).

Traditional country hotels come in all shapes and sizes, and because many were built a few hundred years ago as homes rather than as wedding venues, they can be a bit of a compromise – some have great grounds, but awkward interiors that just don’t work, or great interiors but poorly laid out (or poorly maintained) grounds. Inglewood though seems to have everything just right, and with efficient, friendly service too. And at this time of year, with the bluebells and rhododendrons in full bloom, and on a glorious sunny day like we had for Gemma & Chris’ wedding, it’s just perfect!

There’s a break with tradition this year, with a few wedding fairs right at the height of the summer wedding season - so there’s no need to wait till Autumn to get your key suppliers booked, and beat the crowd!

I’ll be attending the ones listed here, and if you'd like an informal chat about your wedding plans, a chance to see some sample albums, and to hear how an experienced, friendly photographer can help your day run perfectly, pop along and say hello?

Mandy & Tim's Marbury, Cheshire Wedding Wedding at St. Michael's, Marbury, CheshireMarbury, Cheshire Wedding St. Michael's at Marbury must be one of the prettiest settings for a church wedding in Cheshire, in the heart of a quiet secluded village, and sitting on a bank overlooking a mere. And early April, with the daffs in full bloom, it's at its best. Mandy & Tim married here, before nipping over the border for a reception at Rossett Hall.

Wedding Fayres in Llandudno and Wrexham Wedding Fayres Llandudno and WrexhamWedding Fayres at Venue Cymru, Llandudno and Holt Lodge, Wrexham, April 2016, where Phil Rees Photography will be exhibiting A couple of wedding fayres I'll be attending over the next few weeks - the last two of the season, before all the suppliers get busy over the summer with their existing clients' weddings.

This Sunday it's the one at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, the biggest in North Wales with 60 exhibitors. At the time of writing, 800 brides & grooms (and their mums and bridesmaids!) have registered for free tickets, so it looks as if it'll be a bit busy! If you're going, and would like any information beforehand, or want to check my availability for your date, just email me please (click 'contact' above).

On Sunday 24th April, it's the final one in the Wrexham area at Holt Lodge. It's organised by Want to Celebrate, who always do a great job, with a great bunch of local suppliers, so if you're at that end of North Wales, or in Cheshire, see you at that one too?

Why your Wedding Photos deserve an Album Graphistudio Wedding Albums - Millie & Dan (1)

I’m loving my new sample album & box combination that arrived today from Graphistudio in Italy. It'll make a great addition to my range, and I suspect it may be as popular as the silver and grey combo that I have in my studio, that brides and grooms fell in love with during 2015.

There’s something special about seeing the images from a wedding properly displayed in an album, especially when it’s one as luxurious and beautifully built as Graphistudio’s (can you tell I’m a bit of a fan?).

I’m a big believer that wedding photos should be printed. There’s always a risk that if just left as digital files, they’ll get forgotten and eventually lost when equipment or storage media fails or becomes obsolete. Google Vice-President Vint Cerf thinks that’s a big issue for us as a society.

But an album is forever. It’ll still be around to show your kids in 20 years’ time, and probably much longer, even becoming a family heirloom.

If your budget will stretch to it (and Graphistudio’s prices are not exorbitant by any means) a professionally designed album, with the images expertly laid out, is definitely the way to go. But at the very least make a photobook, or print off some 7x5’s on a supermarket machine. Please?

If you’re planning a wedding and looking for a wedding photographer, and have already decided you’d like an album, it makes sense to meet the photographers on your short-list to see some of their designs, and to check out the build quality of their albums. And even if you’re going for a digital package initially, if you think you may want to add an album later on, it’s worth checking that your photographer is equipped to supply them.

If you’d like to know more, and want to meet up to see my range of samples just let me know please. But be ready to fall in love with them!

Glyndwr University Creative Futures Glyndwr Universtity Creative Futures talk by Phil Rees Photography Creative Futures

I spent this morning giving a talk to 30-40 final year photography & film students at Glyndwr University about the local photography market as part of the ‘Creative Futures’ event.

Public speaking’s always a bit nerve-wracking, and I must admit that not much else has been on my mind this week, but I’m quite relieved that it seemed to go down quite well. I might go back next year then!

All in all, a rewarding few hours, and it’s very satisfying to be able to pass on a few pointers to new up & coming photographers, even if one day soon they’re going to be pinching work from me!

More kind words A text received this evening, from a grateful bride's mother after her daughter had picked up her Graphistudio wedding album today, and Parent Books for both mums, from their wedding at Beaufort Park in Mold :

"I just wanted to say that your work is outstanding, and wanted to say a big thank you for capturing all the memories of the big day. Many thanks"

I love this job!

"I heard he's nice" An interesting little piece from Huffington Post on how weddings looked, and were booked, in the 1970's : What Weddings Looked Like in the Old Days

"Our last stop was the photographer. We overlooked the yellowing pictures and plastic lilacs on the dirty ledge in his storefront window. My mother knew someone who knew him. "I heard he's nice," was her complete report. He seemed happy for the business."

Most brides booking their photographer now will have a few other criteria on their list - the photographer's style, their range of albums, and (especially for those wary of doing business online in a 'faceless' environment), whether they have a studio where you can meet them and see their work properly.

But maybe "I heard he's nice" should still be in there somewhere?

Just got engaged? Wedding fairs & in Chester and WrexhamJust got engaged?Forthcoming Wedding Fairs & Events in Chester and Wrexham & surrounding areas Congratulations !

If you got engaged over the festive season, and are just starting to plan your wedding, Wedding Fairs and Open Days are a great way to see what's out there, get your benchmarks for prices so that you can start to put a budget together, and to get to know the established, professional wedding suppliers in your area who can help turn your vision into a reality.

The season for wedding fairs runs from January to around March, and then from September to November. And bookings tend to come in thick & fast over those months, so if you want to secure your first-choice suppliers, it can help to plan early and be a bit ahead of the crowd.

I'll have a stand at the following fairs and events over the coming weeks, and if you'd like an informal chat about your wedding photography - the sort of images you like, the packages on offer, and how an experienced, well-organised photographer can help your day run smoothly (and how the photography can be fun and stress-free!) - please pop by and say hello!

It’s always a pleasure to photograph a wedding at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel, with its amazing views. And I loved shooting Kelly & Alan’s for them back in August - a great couple, who struck a perfect balance between formality and fun for their wedding, and who (with their equally fun bridal party and friends) created a fab atmosphere.

Although I now mostly cover weddings in Wrexham and Chester, I lived in Guilsfield near Welshpool for 7 years and have good memories of my time in Montgomeryshire, so it’s always nice to make another return visit - I’d been there earlier in the season for a wedding at Bettws Hall too, and Bryngwyn Hall before that.

Kelly & Alan’s wedding album will be winging its way to me from Graphistudio in Italy any day now – can’t wait to see it!

Theirs is the first in a batch of eight albums I've designed recently, the others currently being printed in a small town near to Venice, Italy for delivery over the next few weeks. Digital images are a convenient way to receive your wedding images quickly, but in some ways they're just the raw material, and nothing beats displaying them in a beautifully presented album, custom-designed to tell your own individual story.

Rachel & Jason's was a fab wedding - a great, fun, atmosphere despite some rain, in a lovely venue for a couple I've thoroughly enjoyed working with.

They were married in the Henry Robertson suite at the station, on the anniversary of the day they met, before afternoon tea on the 15:10 to Corwen and back, and an evening reception at White Waters Country Hotel. The 1950's polka dot theme and Emma's tea-length dress fitted the location perfectly.

It was great to see some of my wedding photography featured this week on the Easy Weddings' UK website.

Millie & Dan's August wedding at Millie's parents' smallholding in Glyn Ceiriog was one of the highlights of the summer - a perfect setting for an outdoor ceremony and some lovely touches which drew on the couple's and their families' talents, including ties for the men hand-painted by Millie, music from Millie's brother and sister, a father of the bride speech entirely in verse, and Dan playing sax with the band in the evening.

Wedding Fayre at Tower Hill Barns Wedding Fair at Tower Hill Barns between Wrexham and LlangollenWedding Fair at Tower Hill Barns 23rd OctoberOne not to be missed!

It's wedding fair season again, and I'll be attending this one at Tower Hill Barns , at Trevor between Wrexham and Llangollen, on Friday evening, 23rd October. It promises to be a great event, with catwalk shows and a host of great local suppliers, and it's already generating a lot of interest. And the bar's open, so bring your bridesmaids and make it a girl's night out?

If you're looking for a photographer, attending a few fairs is a quick & efficient way to narrow down your choice - a chance to meet a few personally, and decide not only if you like their work, but whether you'll click with them, and be happy for them to be a part of your big day.

I'll also be at the Queen Hotel, Chester on Sunday 25th October, and Wrexham Wedding Trail at the Ramada on 1st November, plus a few in the New Year - the full list is on my contact page.

There’s only one thing better than a client telling me that they appreciate what I’ve done for them. And that’s when they love my work so much they tell other people too!

So I was delighted to see this review on the 'My Wrexham Wedding' website by Elise following her wedding at Rossett Hall recently:

“If you’re looking for a photographer for your wedding, or any occasion for that matter, I cannot recommend Phil Rees enough. He is based in the Plassey, with a lovely studio showcasing all of his work. He did my wedding recently and I am in love with the photographs. He worked so so hard on the day capturing so many beautiful photographs that we will treasure forever.”

Thanks Elise. I loved covering it for you x

Choosing a Wedding Photographer (A short piece I've just been writing for a Bridal Shop brochure. Seems to make sense to share it here too).

A little bit of research at the start is well worth the time spent - check out photographers’ websites, but just as importantly, talk to friends too and ask for recommendations.

Most of the more established photographers will have a distinct style. Do you prefer traditional, formal photography with lots of posed images (which may need more time in your schedule), or something more relaxed, natural and spontaneous. Are you looking for a particular style of editing and the latest special effects, or something more classic and timeless?

Once you’ve narrowed your choice a bit, meet up with those on your short list. You’ll spend a large part of your day with them, and the more comfortable you are, the more relaxed you’ll appear in your images (look for clues in the expressions of previous brides and grooms in their portfolio!). An experienced photographer will be able to guide you through the day and make sure that everything runs smoothly, and if they’re full-time and well-established, they should also be able to provide prompt, attentive service before and after your big day too. Check that their pricing is clear, with no hidden extras, and if you’re looking to buy an album or framed prints, see their samples.

If you’re on a budget, make sure you shop around, and avoid compromising too much on quality.  Look for established businesses offering discounts for off-peak dates or shorter coverage, or new up-and-coming photographers who are keeping prices low while they build up their business. But make sure you see plenty of examples, including a full wedding (in winter, or a dimly-lit venue, if that’s a consideration) and not just the ‘greatest hits’ on their website!

But above all, find someone you like, and who you’d be happy to invite as a guest to your big day.

Hayley & Nick's Denbighshire Wedding

I do like a man in uniform. No, not in that way, but it does make for some great photos.

These, with Nick in his ‘number ones’ were from his wedding to Hayley, with a ceremony at St. Garmon’s in Llanarmon yn Iâl, and then a short trip to the village of Eryrys for the reception. A marquee had been attached to the Sun Inn there, where Nick’s stepmum and her team did a fantastic job on the catering, and the rural theme suited the setting perfectly.

Alison & Dan's Grosvenor Pulford Wedding Photography Grosvenor Pulford Wedding Photography by Wrexham & Chester Wedding Photographer Phil ReesGrosvenor Pulford Wedding Photographyfor Alison & Dan

I shot my first wedding at the Grosvenor Pulford back in 2010, before the creation of the Asian Garden. It's an addition that's been very popular since of course, but it does mean that the original gardens sometimes get overlooked as a location for wedding photography. So when Alison & Dan opted to have their photos there, in among the weeping willows by the pond, I was happy to oblige !

I loved photographing their wedding for them - a traditional wedding (with a ceremony at St.Giles' Parish Church, Wrexham) for a laid-back couple, happy to go with the flow, and enjoy their day. Rachel & Chris' Lion Quays Wedding Wedding Photography at Lion Quays for Rachel & Chris by Wrexham Wedding Photographer Phil ReesLion Quays Wedding PhotographyDown by the canal, with Rachel & Chris

There are few venues in the area that are so ideally suited to weddings as Lion Quays, and the area down by the canal is just perfect -  a quiet area, where you can retreat for 15 minutes away from your guests, and catch your breath, with 'photo-opps' in abundance.

These are a few images from Rachel & Chris' recent reception there, after a wedding at Holy Trinity, Gwersyllt - an ideal location for this cross-border affair bringing together Chris' family and friends from (predominantly) Shrewsbury and Rachel's from Wrexham.

Katy & Paul's Llangollen Wedding Llangollen Wedding PhotographyKaty & Paulat the Horseshoe Pass

The windswept Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen, at a height of 417 metres above sea level, may not be every couple’s choice of an ideal wedding photography location. But for Katy & Paul, who spend much of their free time on mountain bikes in the area (and who’ll spend their honeymoon paddling down the Grand Canyon), it was an obvious backdrop to use for a few of their wedding images.

They married at St.Collen’s in Llangollen, so it was just a quick stop en route to their ‘afternoon tea’ marquee reception in Bwlchgwyn. Ten minutes or so (much of it spent trying to arrange the veil in the breeze!), and we were on our way again.

Nia & Andrew's Chester Zoo Wedding Wedding Photography Chester Zoo for Nia & Andrew by Wrexham Wedding Photographer Phil ReesChester Zoo Wedding PhotographyNia & Andrew's perfect day

Oakfield Manor at Chester Zoo is a great place for wedding photography – is there anywhere with such a varied range of backdrops? As well as probably the best traditional British garden in the area, the Roman Garden is just round the corner, and the African grassland area (and more) a stone’s throw away. And with the Lion enclosure just next door, your wedding’s bound to be a roaring success (sorry, couldn’t resist!).

I was there recently for Nia & Andrew’s big day – a laid-back, easy-going wedding that was a real joy to photograph. The first dance, choreographed to ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ was a perfect finale (for me, that is; I left just after, but the guests demanded an encore at midnight apparently!)

It was a massive privilege recently to be able to shoot Matt & Ffiona's wedding - the first couple to book their wedding at Bettws Hall, near Newtown, Powys – a venue already well known (and well liked) in shooting circles, and now diversifying into weddings. I’m sure it’ll become very popular – it’s a lovely setting, with great staff and high standards, and it certainly deserves to.

It was also fantastic to receive an email with these kind words from Ffiona & Matt when they saw their images. Moments like that make the job worthwhile!

We have both just sat and looked through all our lovely pictures from our special day - and are thrilled! Both yourself and Katie have captured our day from start to finish … the photographs tell the story and will ensure that we never forget our special day.

When planning our Wedding choosing the Wedding Photographer was the easy part -we didn't even choose, just hoped you would have been free! After meeting you at Nerys & Sam's wedding there was no other choice to who would capture our photographs and you certainly haven't disappointed.

We are so grateful for your hard work and the end result.Throughout our planning you were attentive, contactable at all times and reassuring with any question, detail or query. It was a pleasure to work with you, and hope that we have the chance to work with you again or be the guest at another wedding which you are capturing.

Nicola & Daniel's Llyndir Hall Wedding Wedding Car leaving Gresford Church for Llyndir Hall by Wrexham Wedding Photographer Phil ReesNicola & Daniel's Llyndir Hall Car by Bespoked Wedding Cars One of my favourite images from Nicola & Daniel’s recent wedding on at All Saints’, Gresford, and Llyndir Hall, Rossett, shot as they left the church (from the brambles and nettles on the small bank opposite to be precise!).

A great day at 2 favourite venues - Gresford Church because the light is great, and Llyndir because the staff are efficient and professional.

It was a pleasure to see this lovely young man again recently for a portrait shoot at the Plassey over the Easter holidays. I met him first on a shoot with his cousins 2 years ago (9 young children in one shoot!).

He was back in the UK for a week over Easter, so came along for one on his own this time. I'm looking forward to welcoming him & his mum back in another couple of years !

Emma & James' Doubletree Chester Winter Wedding Chester Doubletree by Hilton Wedding PhotographyChester Doubletree Wedding PhotographyLate afternoon sun at Emma & James' wedding

For the second time in a week (see also Laura & Rich’s Llyndir Hall Wedding below) Katie & I were lucky to get some great winter sunshine for the posed ‘couple photos’ at Emma & James wedding at Doubletree by Hilton, Chester.

Winter weddings seem to be becoming more popular. It’s been my busiest winter since I started in 2007, and my last 2 enquiries have both been for Christmas weddings. Although there’s more of a risk with the weather, very often it can be dry but cold – so for the formal photography I tend to keep the guests indoors until they’re needed, try and be uber-organised and work quickly, and if the bride wants to, break the session half-way to get warmed up again. It’s surprising though how the bride often doesn’t feel the cold – it must be the adrenalin! Or just having too much fun to notice perhaps!

Each season brings its own unique qualities with it, and winter is certainly no exception. The shorter days create challenges for wedding photographers, but they also occasionally throw up some fabulous opportunities – at what other time of year can you see a sunset before the wedding breakfast?

Laura and Rich were married at Llyndir Hall (at Rossett, between Chester and Wrexham) between Christmas and New Year, on a clear frosty day, and we were able to time the formal photos to coincide perfectly with the setting sun. Luckily, the venue faces west !

Wedding photography fads & trends Vintage processing

This is interesting - it's one of those Facebook polls, and the respondents are photographers, rather than brides and grooms. But it confirms, if we needed it, that vintage processing is on the way out.

Retro or Vintage processing (in a nutshell, tweaking colours & contrast to make a digital image look like a faded photo from the 70's/80's) has only been around for about 5 years, so it shows the relatively short-lived nature of some fads & trends.

Taste is very subjective. And some people would prefer to have something that looks good (and different) right now and not worry too much about how it will look in the future. But with wedding photography, I tend to think that most people would want theirs to still look great in 10, 20 or 30 years' time. That's how I approach things at least, so I use Photoshop and other tools to enhance an image, but not to do anything too wacky or offbeat that will quickly become dated. I like to think that when today's couples show their wedding albums to their kids in 20 years time, they won't laugh. Or not too much anyway.

Another storybook album designed this week, this time for Joanna & Ed's wedding at All Saints' Church, Gresford with receptions at Ruthin Castle.

I loved the theme of this wedding, and the stunning floristry by Vivid Floral Design, Wrexham, which complemented the early autumn colours in the grounds of the Castle.

A lovely couple, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again when Ed's Best Man Nick marries Hayley this coming June.

It's that time of year when I'm busy designing Storybook Albums - three were uploaded to Graphistudio in Italy last week for printing, with a few more in the pipeline.

This particular one is coming together beautifully - Emily & Rob's from their wedding at All Saints' Church, Gresford and a marquee on Emily's family's farm between Chester and Wrexham. It had been a difficult and stressful week on the farm, but luck was with them all the way on the day with the sun appearing just as the horse & carriage arrived at the farm for Emily, and staying with us all day.

Low Light Photography Low light photography by Wrexham Wedding Photographer Phil ReesWatching the fireworksPlassey Bonfire Night 2014

I quite like this image - taken at the weekend at the fireworks display at the Plassey near Wrexham (where my studio is based).

Its main attraction for me is in the technical aspects - it was taken in virtual darkness, without flash and lit only by the light from the fireworks. (To the eye, the sky appeared black). It wouldn't have been possible just a few years ago, and shows how far professional cameras have come, and what's possible with the right equipment.

For the techies ... it was shot on a Nikon D700 at 5000 ISO, f2.8 at 1/2 second; hand-held but crouching and using legs and arms as a makeshift tripod!

p.s. If you're planning a wedding in a dimly lit church, it shows the value of asking a few searching questions of your photographer, to see if they have up-to-date professional quality equipment!

North Wales and Shropshire Wedding Venues Oswestry Country House Wedding Photography by Wrexham Wedding Photographer Phil ReesLisa & IanOswestry Country House Wedding Photography

For wedding photographers, operating as they do in a competitive industry, marketing can be a full-time occupation in itself. Many go down the route of becoming the recommended supplier at a particular venue, but it's not an approach I've ever much fancied - I like the variety and stimulus of shooting at different venues. So though you'll regularly find me at the more popular venues such as Llyndir Hall, Grosvenor Pulford, Lion Quays and Ruthin Castle, in between I'll likely be at a marquee or tepee wedding on a farm, or a small intimate barn wedding. And I'm equally happy at a church or chapel wedding, or a civil ceremony in a hotel.

That policy came up trumps this summer, with the opportunity to photograph at this private residence near Oswestry, for what we believe was the first wedding reception in 100 years (and probably ever!) for anyone other than members of the family who live there. Lisa & Ian had the use of the shooting lodge and grounds for the day, by kind permission of the owners, and it was a privilege to have such a stunning backdrop for their wedding photography.

A few images, taken in the last of the evening sun, on my second visit this summer to Tower Hill Barns at Trevor (between Wrexham and Llangollen) for the wedding of Claire & Ben.

The long grass of the disused railway line that runs along the back of the venue wouldn't perhaps be the obvious choice for wedding photography, but in the right light it's just perfect!

There's plans to improve and extend the venue for the 2015 season, and if you're planning a wedding there, please call me - I'd love to shoot there again; I just hope they don't cut the grass!

Joanne & Tony's wedding day was fantastic ... despite the weather! It was one of those days when we had to dodge the showers a bit, though thankfully there were plenty of breaks and it certainly didn't affect the atmosphere of their day. Here's three images - two were taken while it was raining, but hopefully that's not too obvious. It's amazing what some top shade and a good reflector can do ;-)

Millie & Rob's Tower Hill Barns Wedding Tower Hill Barns Wedding Photography by Wrexham Wedding Photographer Phil ReesTower Hill Barns Wedding PhotographyMillie & Rob's Vintage Tea Party Wedding

I'm still on a bit of a high at the moment, after two fantastic weddings this weekend, including a return to Tower Hill Barns (formerly Trevor Villa Barn), the perfect setting for Millie & Rob's amazing vintage tea party themed wedding. It's been a while since I'd shot there, but with new owners in situ, and developments planned, I'm sure it'll become ever more popular, and I'm looking forward to my next visit there in August with Claire & Ben.

Millie & Rob were clear that they wanted mainly unobtrusive documentary photography, with just a few posed images, and I was happy to oblige. The result was a relaxed wedding shoot, with time to consider and capture the moments that really matter. The full set won't be available for a week or so, but there's a few here if you fancy a sneak preview >  Tower Hill Barns Wedding Photography

Having a second photographer isn't essential, but it's great for those times where one pair of eyes just isn't enough; it gives a different angle on things, and of course a larger final set of images. I have two who work with me regularly - Katie who's in her third season with me, and Kat who'll be home shortly from Spain to do a sixth season with me, and take over from Katie while she's away competing at the Commonwealth Games! A second shooter is included as standard in some of my packages, and as an option with others, and if it's something you're considering, I'll be happy to talk to you and explain more.

Late teens is a great time for portraits, but sadly often overlooked. In the States, there's a tradition of taking 'Senior Portraits'  in the final year of school - almost a rite of passage before moving on to College or University. Unlike a lot of American social photography which can often be quite formal, they're usually relaxed, natural images taken outdoors, rather than the studio. It's a great idea, and one I wouldn't mind us copying!

Graphistudio's new 'Young Book' Storybook Album The Young BookGraphistudio Storybook Albums from Wrexham Wedding Photographer Phil Rees

Getting married in 2014 or 2015?  Or maybe you're a previous wedding client of mine who had the images on disc, and hasn't yet got round to ordering an album?

Graphistudio, my preferred supplier for wedding albums, have today released a great competitively priced new product - a boxed album for only very slightly more than the current unboxed range, and with a wider choice of papers and cover materials included as standard.

Clients who've already booked a wedding photography package from me can switch to the new product if they wish. The first sample should be with me within a couple of weeks, if you want to take a look.

For now at least, it's priced at £220 for a 30x20 cm book, or £330 for 35x25cm, though my prices (for all products) are getting a little out of date, and will probably increase in a few months time.

So it's a great time to get your order in. Drop me a line please to if you'd like to know more.

A Bride & Groom - customers or clients? There was an interesting debate tonight on a Facebook forum for wedding photographers worldwide. A Bride & Groom want to change the date for their wedding; the photographer’s available for the new date, but thinks they should pay a hefty cancellation & re-booking fee, on the basis that they’d had other enquiries for the first date, and have potentially lost out on those bookings.

I don’t agree. I understand the viewpoint, but as things stand, it’s no real inconvenience to change it.

I think it all comes down to how you view your bookings. Is a wedding booking a ‘transactional sale’, in the way a retailer might shift a TV or a washing machine and try and maximize the income, or is it a ‘relationship sale’ where you try and offer value for money, and build trust and a great working relationship with the Bride and Groom, that hopefully will last for years?

I know my answer, and like to think that I have clients, rather than customers. And I like to think that’s why so many of my bookings come from recommendations. Many clients are kind enough to pen to paper (or fingers to keyboards!) to let me know what they think - if you’d like to read some of their comments, you’ll find them on my testimonials page here :  Wedding Photography Recommendations

Planning a 2014 or 2015 wedding? Are you planning a 2014 or 2015 wedding?

Normally, there's a bit of a lag after Christmas, while Brides find their dress, and once they've got that sorted, I start seeing a few enquiries. This year, it's been different, and enquiries are coming in earlier, and in bigger numbers. Enquiries for 2015 are running at 3 times the usual level at this stage!

It looks as if both 2014 & 2015 will be busy years for weddings, and booking early will be more important than ever, if you want to make sure you get your first choice of suppliers.

If you're not already on the case, it may be time to get moving!

Declare your independance! It’s Christmas, and I’m winding down. Trawling YouTube this morning I came across this – it’s a wonderful speech by Adam Price (former MP, and Harvard student/research fellow) to Harvard University graduates.

Adam Price Harvard Address

It talks about the need to be different and original, and it’s great advice for life in general, but also for my own field where too many photographers follow the crowd, and copy others, instead of finding their own style.

See what you think, especially if you’re looking for inspiration for your New Years’ resolutions?

Lifestyle Photography Apparently, I made 4 people cry this week. For all the right reasons, thankfully, when they saw the photos from their children's and grandchildren's portrait shoots.

Family portrait shoots usually take place in the grounds of the Plassey, near Wrexham, where my studio is based. It's in a rural setting, with a fantastic range of converted Edwardian farm buildings that provide the perfect backdrops.

It's always good to stray a bit from home. For this wedding, 150 miles from my studio, I only got to see the church and reception venue (Wellington Barn near Calne in Wiltshire) the afternoon before. They didn't disappoint! A perfect choice, and an all-round fab day for Faye & James, who I first photographed at Faye's cousin's wedding 12 months ago.

A fab day from start to finish, and I couldn't ask for a better wedding as my '100th'. The Doubletree Hilton in Chester was the venue for the reception, after a ceremony at Gorsedd near Holywell with Hannah's godfather officiating. Hannah looked amazing in her Ian Stuart designer dress, and with the muted tones of the bridesmaid's dresses and flowers, it was a photographer's dream! The men looked pretty good too!

Great to see Cath & Carl again this evening, when they picked up their wedding photos after their honeymoon in Sorrento.

Blessed with sunshine all day, the bilingual wedding ceremony took place at Capel Bethel, Ponciau, with a reception at Cath's family's farm at Onnen Fawr, Rhosllanerchrugog. Everything about this wedding was just right - tasteful and elegant, and in a fantastic location with views over Wrexham and the Cheshire Plains. Plus we got to sing Calon Lan; that's always a bonus!

I've enjoyed working with this lovely couple right through from the first meeting, the great engagement shoot we had on the farm, and of course the day itself. Very best wishes to you both.

Access All Eirias Event & Commercial Photography in North Wales

This event, in Parc Eirias in Colwyn Bay, organised by Orchard Entertainment and Conwy County Borough Council (and covered for them in my role as official photographer) is becoming an annual event, and one of the favourites in my calendar. Last year's event featured Pixie Lott and Olly Murs plus others; this year it was the turn of Wiley, Little Mix, Conor Maynard, Loveable Rogues and Vamp - a bit less my musical cup of tea, but good fun to cover and a great atmosphere again.

I don't cover much sport these days, so this event was a welcome change - the IAU's World Trail Championships, covered for the co-organisers Conwy County Borough Council. I've covered numerous events for them over the last few years, organised mainly by their marketing team who are second to none.

Held in Llanrwst, the main race featured a seventy-seven kilometres 'ultra-run' in the Gwydir Forest, won by GB's Ricky Lightfoot in 5 hours 36 minutes. France’s Nathalie Mauclair won the women’s race in 6 hours 38. That final picture (bottom right) says it all !

Alex & Kevin's Engagement Shoot Alex & Kevin's pre-wedding shoot was hastily re-arranged to take advantage of the recent snow, which provided a lovely backdrop at the Plassey.

Alex works at Eyton Framers at the Plassey, who I use for framed prints - not because they're close at hand (I used them before I came to the Plassey), but because they do a great job, and their customer service is spot on.

Alex & Kevin are tying the knot in May in Ruthin. Their wedding invitations, based on a comic book theme, were the most original I've seen, and I know that on the day there's going to be some very unique touches ... but I can't talk about those just yet!

Alice & Michael's Engagement Shoot A few images from Alice & Michael’s recent Engagement Shoot at the Plassey, near Wrexham, where I have my studio. A very cold day but great fun, and I can't wait for their wedding this summer at Albrighton Hall.
They live in Shrewsbury, and found me while on a trip to Cameo Brides who have their shop just across the way from me.
The Plassey is situated just off the Overton to Marchwiel road, near Bangor on Dee, so is conveniently placed for North Shropshire - Whitchurch, Ellesmere and Oswestry are all less than half an hour away, and Shrewsbury not much more. With parking on site, and none of the hassles of town centre shopping, it's a great place to start your wedding planning.
If you're looking for a wedding photographer who's conveniently placed to serve anywhere in North Shropshire, please drop me a line or give me a call. I'd love to hear from you.

New ideas I’m a firm believer in continuous professional development, and that we should always be open to new ideas.
I spent a day at Crewe Hall last week with Brett Harkness, one of the UK’s best wedding photographers, and a master of the use of flash and portable lighting in wedding photography - these are a few of my favourites from the day’s shoot. His techniques are a long way from my current style, and I prefer wherever possible to use natural light, but there’s undoubtedly  some situations where nature needs a bit of help. I’m looking forward to integrating some of the techniques into my 2013 weddings.

Why the photographer's choice of album supplier should be part of the decision, and an interesting new product ...

I had a day out today – my annual trip to the NEC for ‘Focus on Imaging’ – the  professional photographers' trade show. This year, there were some great new products, including one from Graphistudio I'm quite excited about. Their new ‘matted album’, a storybook album with embossed borders and decoration, is very different to anything else on the market.

Graphistudio were the first company to introduce storybook albums to the UK about 12 years ago, and it’s good to see them once again being innovative and leading the field – not least because I’m a customer of theirs!
Wedding photographers tend to choose an album supplier they like, and stick with them. It’s easier to deal with one company, there’s expense involved in building a stock of sample albums, and it takes time to find your way round a company’s software.
But how many brides and grooms, when deciding on their wedding photographer, take the photographer’s choice of supplier into account?
Photographers have different approaches to album design too. Most companies provide design software and being frank, the standard templates can be a tad boring! So many of us create pages to our own design, producing a more unique product with a bit more flair, and allowing the images to be shown to best advantage. So two albums from the same supplier (even one of the better ones) can look very different.
It’s worth thinking about. The best approach when looking for a wedding photographer is probably to talk to friends for recommendations, and to check out photographers’ websites, but then when you’ve narrowed it down to 2 or 3, to go and see them and view their sample albums. It could well make the final decision very easy!

Lifestyle Photography at the Plassey Ain't she cute ?

A few images from last weekend's 'Lifestyle' shoot at the Plassey, near Wrexham (where I have my studio/gallery). It's the ideal location for relaxed & natural outdoor photography at any time of the year. With a backdrop of stunning Edwardian converted farm buildings in a woodland setting, and lots of little nooks and crannies, I find new backgrounds every time I shoot there! It's just 5 minutes off the A483 Wrexham by-pass near Bangor-on-Dee, so easily accessible for Cheshire and North Shropshire too.

A Shropshire wedding - my first of 2013 ! It was great to be 'back in action' today, with my first wedding for two months, and I was relieved that it only took about 5 minutes to get back in the swing of wedding photography again!

Steph & Kelvin tied the knot at St. Mary's in Ellesmere, with a reception at Sweeney Hall, Oswestry (coincidently also the venue for the last wedding of 2012). A perfect day, apart from losing the sweep for the length of the best man's speech perhaps!

Choosing a Wedding Photographer A link to a great article ...

Do you read wedding magazines for advice or tips? I pick them up now and again, to see what they say about wedding photography, and usually find myself shaking my head at some of the advice given!

Wedding Fair - Clwyd Theatr Cymru This Sunday, 3rd February I'll be exhibiting at the wedding fair at Clwyd Theatr Cymru (still known to most of us as Theatr Clwyd!) in Mold. It's on from 12 noon to 4pm, and with 45 exhibitors, and a great organiser behind it (Ann Gray from Sugar & Spice) it promises to be one of the best.

Choosing a wedding photographer from websites alone can be difficult - it's important to know that you can get on with the photographer, and that they'll help make your day perfect. At wedding fairs, you can chat informally about your plans, see examples of storybook albums, check the photographer's availability... and decide if you like them!

It'd be great if you could join us - see you there?

It's time to book your wedding photography ! It's that time of year ... the Christmas decorations are back in the attic, it's Wedding Fair season, and brides and grooms-to-be are turning their attention back to their wedding planning. If you're getting hitched in 2013 or 2014 you need to get your skates on, and reserve your date! My 2013 diary is looking quite full, with room for just 5 or 6 more weddings, and summer saturdays in 2014 are beginning to get snapped up.

(I limit the number of weddings I accept, to allow the right amount of time for processing and album design, but also to keep each one special and give it the attention it deserves, and avoid a conveyor-belt approach)

My re-vamped website is live at - pop over and take a look?  Or call in and see me at my studio at the Plassey near Wrexham (LL13 0SP). You'll also find a bridal shop (Cameo Brides) there, plus custom jeweller, hair & make-up, florist, cake maker, lingerie and 'mother of the bride' boutiques, so it's the perfect place to start your wedding planning!

Nerys & Sam's wedding at Bryngwyn Hall

A few images from Sam and Nerys’ wedding at St. Nicholas Church, Montgomery and the stunning Bryngwyn Hall at Bwlch y Cibau near Llanfyllin, on a gloriously sunny day back in August.

I originally met Sam & Nerys at a hotel near their home in Essex – by coincidence their initial enquiry had come through a few days before I was due to travel that way on another job. Distance does make the planning a little bit more difficult, but with the help of a meeting at the venue 2 days before the wedding, all went perfectly on the day.
I’m looking forward to seeing this lovely couple and their families again next year - Sam’s cousin has since booked me for her wedding too … in Wiltshire this time!

If you're planning a wedding, don't miss the Plassey's Wedding & Event Show this Friday, 5-9 pm

We've got 30 exhibitors -  three quite different venues, then the rest all offering a different product or service, so probably the widest range of suppliers you'll find locally.

If you can't make it, come and see us sometime anyway? The permanent residents include a bridal shop, wedding photographer, custom jeweller, cake maker, florist, hair & beauty plus lingerie and mother of thebride boutiques. As close to a one-stop wedding shop as you'll find anywhere in North Wales or Cheshire !

Other wedding fairs I'm attending this Autumn :

16th September - Beaufort Park, Mold

23rd September - Hill Valley, Whitchurch

13th October - Bodidris Hall, Llandegla

Olly Murs & Pixie Lott

A fantastic weekend at Eirias Stadium, Colwyn Bay with Olly Murs, Pixie Lott, Cover Drive, Diana Vickers and others; part of Conwy Council's 'Access All Eirias' event to celebrate the olympics.

After Friday's concert with Only Boys Allowed and Sophie Evans, a crowd of 12.000 North Wales music fans filled the stadium for the second night on Saturday. Olly was the main attraction, and he's a great showman, but Pixie was just amazing and gets my vote !

Second shooters All my wedding photography packages include the option of having two photographers – it can be useful to cover the preparations (if the bride & groom are at separate locations), and it gives another angle for the ceremony and speeches (so a wider choice of images for your album). And if you have children at your wedding, the second photographer can concentrate on them, while the first is with yourselves.

Kat Mickleson has been my 'second' (and a sounding board for my ideas!) for 4 years. With a B.A. in photography, and bags of experience of wedding photography, including shooting some on her own, she's a valued colleague, and well overdue for a mention here! Tom Cusworth has joined me recently too, to cover the times Kat isn't available, and has already produced some great images. I'm quite choosy about my 'seconds' - they need to be good photographers, but also presentable, and have a professional and friendly approach with your guests. You're in safe hands with these two !

School Proms

I always feel a bit of trepidation when I head off to do school prom photography  -  a hectic few hours with 100 or so exhuberant 16 year olds! Invariably though I come back a bit frazzled, but with a nice warm feeling about how great most of our young people are.

This week was the turn of Ysgol y Grango (from Rhos, near Wrexham) at the Ramada Plaza, Wrexham - a lovely bunch, and a pleasure to work with. Many thanks to everyone who attended.

A Chester Racecourse Wedding

A fantastic day yesterday at Jenna & Mark's wedding at St.Peter's & St.Eurgain's Church in Northop, and reception at Chester Racecourse.

Jenna's stunning dress was from Karen Lesley Bridal in the village, just round the corner from her Mum & Dad's, and next door to the Red Lion where the guys gathered (briefly!) before popping over the road to the church.

Congratulations and very best wishes to a lovely couple.

Olympic Torch I feel privileged to have been at Parc Eirias in Colwyn Bay today to see the Olympic Torch's arrival at Conwy Council's Olympic & Paralympic Day - partly to see the Torch at close hand, but mainly to see the schoolchildren enjoying it so much - they loved every minute. I came home thinking 'I love this job' !

An amazing day at Llyndir Hall A few images from Nicky & Nick's wedding yesterday.

Glorious sunshine for the outdoor ceremony on the Italian terrace gave it a positively Mediterranean feel, the gold & ivory theme worked beautifully in the ‘Gold room’, and the first dance was the best ever !
Loads of fun along the way too with this lovely couple – many congratulations Nicky & Nick – see you soon x

A busy weekend - Kitty Brucknell and others A varied Bank Holiday weekend - Gwyl y Ffin on Saturday (a welsh language rock & pop festival), publicity photos for Plassey Golf Club on Sunday, and the Prom Day at Colwyn Bay on Monday, with X-factor finalist Kitty Brucknell, Team Extreme and others.

It's always good to cover a variety of events, but weddings are my first love, and I'm looking forward to my next in a couple of weeks for Nicky & Nick, and then a really busy June. I shot Nicky's best friend's wedding a few years ago, and Nick's niece soon after. Nicky & Nick came to me after being recommended by them both, and by a couple of other people too! No pressure, then!
