Low light photography by Wrexham Wedding Photographer Phil ReesWatching the fireworksPlassey Bonfire Night 2014

I quite like this image - taken at the weekend at the fireworks display at the Plassey near Wrexham (where my studio is based).

Its main attraction for me is in the technical aspects - it was taken in virtual darkness, without flash and lit only by the light from the fireworks. (To the eye, the sky appeared black). It wouldn't have been possible just a few years ago, and shows how far professional cameras have come, and what's possible with the right equipment.

For the techies ... it was shot on a Nikon D700 at 5000 ISO, f2.8 at 1/2 second; hand-held but crouching and using legs and arms as a makeshift tripod!

p.s. If you're planning a wedding in a dimly lit church, it shows the value of asking a few searching questions of your photographer, to see if they have up-to-date professional quality equipment!
